will prepare them to be
successful in making
the transition into the
classroom, which can
be very challenging for
children with Autism. To
date there are four partners
collaborating to deliver this
program in Simcoe County: CLH DSS,
Children’s Treatment Network, Empower
Simcoe, and Mackenzie Health.
The program includes:
1. A six-month, group program that focuses on
helping children develop school-readiness skills in
communication, play, social interaction, behavioural
self-management, and learning and attention.
2. At the conclusion of the group program, children will
receive individual transition supports as they enter
school, including targeted consultations with Entry to
School program staff during their first six months in
school, as needed.
Our community of schools, care givers, educators and
parents are very excited about the Entry to School
(ETS) program – it provides a focused approach to help
children prepare to attend school. The ETS learning
spaces replicate a kindergarten classroom so that the
child becomes familiar with classroom and routines
ahead of going to school. CLH DSS opened ETS
classrooms in Alliston, Barrie, and Midland in Spring 2022.
Parents of children in the program are very positive about
the impact it has had. One shared: “I could not have
asked for anything better for my son…[I] will be forever
grateful with how and what they have taught my child
during this program.”
Caregiver-Mediated Early Years Programs (CMEY)
The CMEY Programs support families with young children
registered in the Ontario Autism Program (OAP) between
the ages of 12 months and 48 months. As a YSAN partner,
The Children’s Treatment Network takes the lead in the
intake process for YSAN and supports families to choose
the best program suited for their child’s needs. The PLAY
Project is one of the three programs delivered by YSAN
in Simcoe County and York Region. In partnership with
Preschool Speech and Language Pathologists from
