Foundation for Success
Provides Urgent Funding
The Foundation for Success program was created in 2018 as an ongoing commitment by CLH Foundation to provide urgent
funding to individuals who are served by CLH but are ineligible for other funding, and whose limited income is a barrier
to accessing key services and items. Through an application and review process, Foundation for Success provides critical,
personalized support in four key areas: essential needs, health needs and assistive devices, community and social inclusion
and personal development and skill building. It fills in where the need is great but other sources of individual funding
support have been exhausted, or simply do not exist – for requests both large and small.
Simcoe County Resource Consultation Services (SCRCS) provides developmental support to more than 1700 children and
their families under the CLH DSS umbrella. One beneficiary of Foundation for Success funding was a member of the SCRCS
program, a hearing child who lives in complete silence with a hearing impaired and non-verbal parent. Foundation for
Success funding was received to purchase a device that will provide the child with the opportunity to practice speaking,
hear others speak, and begin to catch up with his classmates. In this case, the child had funding for one-half of the
purchase of the device; what was missing was the half his parent was expected to pay. The Foundation for Success program
contributed that portion so that the child could access this important device.
Most recently, Foundation for Success provided life-changing funding for another child: because of a series of tragic
circumstances, this child did not have access to many necessities of life. Under the pillar of essential needs, CLHF was able
to cover expenses for the child’s clothing, diapers, socks and pyjamas, winter coat and boots, lunch box, indoor and outdoor
shoes, soap, shampoo, towels, and specialized food, as well as bus transportation for appointments.
Adults who are served by CLH also benefit from the Foundation for Success program in impactful ways. One example that
qualified under “health needs” stands out: a supported individual required extensive dental work, and was eligible for
government coverage of the dental procedures. However, they were not covered for the anesthetic expenses necessary to
complete the procedure or post-operative pain management. Foundation for Success covered this cost.
In another case, an individual who participates in the
Supported Independent Living (SIL) program was living in
an unsafe environment, but (like many in similar situations)
refused to leave unless their pet could be safely re-homed.
They could not afford the $50 fee to do so, so Foundation
for Success covered the fee that acted as a barrier to
leaving this environment. A small grant; but one that
empowered this person to move forward to a place of
safety and stability.
Foundation for Success is funded by donations. We would
like to thank Midland Rotary and its members for their Midland Rotary Club member and Community Service
$2,400 donation this fall to support this program. Chair Suzanne Marchand presents CLHF Board Member
