The SEED Project is a subsidiary of the Karma Project, which is funded by
government and business supporters. Each member of the cohort is paid for their
participation in the project under a work placement initiative. This ensures that
at the completion of the program, participants are able to take the skills they’ve
learned and include them on their resume when they are ready to enter the
workforce. They not only gain hands-on work experience, but also the experience
(and satisfaction) of what it is like to receive payment for their work.
Kevin Cascagnette, one of the mentors in the SEED Project, facilitates marketing
workshops for SEED participants, and emphasized the impact the program has on SEED’S Outdoor Classroom
mental health and individual value for those involved. Kevin explained that “most + Garden Space In Port McNicoll
youth have an improved sense of self and self-worth after participating in the
program. The project values meeting youth where they’re at and accommodating
them to succeed how they want. It’s about creating a safe space for youth to
explore these new skills and find a sense of belonging in their community.”
As part of a workshop Kevin led this past fall, participants were asked to come up
with words that they felt captured their experience with the SEED Project. Clues to
the success of this program are here in the inspiring list they came up with:
